Every movie and numerous TV series are based upon people morphing into beings of superior strength, ability and power. The strange thing is there is seldom an intellectual morphing into a problem solving entity that can not only resolve problems/conflict and save the planet, but do it without resorting to violence. The cheap reasoning, though valid, is that it makes for bad teevee/ movies.
But the news underneath the news is sad, so sad — people so unimpressed with their own abilities, or people scared to use their abilities well, so they resort to the violent fantasy world of ass-kicking super powered toughs who are as crazy as the enemies they propose to vanquish. Poe and Lovecraft used to channel their demons artistically. So did Bosch and Goya. They did it through art. The super hero cult through comic art.
